Sahara Care provides NDIS supports across Melbourne CBD and inner suburbs, including
personal care, community participation and support coordination.
Inner Melbourne presents a particular set of circumstances for NDIS participants. High-density housing, excellent public
transport, dense services — and significant challenges around housing affordability, social isolation and accessibility in
older buildings.
Participants we support in the inner city
Inner Melbourne has a high concentration of participants living in public and community housing high-rises, participants
with psychosocial disability, participants transitioning from inner-city hospitals and mental health units, and younger
participants living independently for the first time.
Housing and access
Older apartment buildings frequently have access problems — lifts that break down, narrow doorways, bathrooms that
can't accommodate equipment. Where modifications aren't possible, support has to work around the environment.
We assess the actual property, not just the address, before agreeing to arrangements requiring hoists or wheelchair
access.
Transport advantages
The inner city has genuinely good public transport, which makes travel training high-value. A participant who learns the tram network gains real independence in a way that isn't as achievable in outer suburbs. We prioritise travel training for inner-city participants because the payoff is substantial.
Isolation in a crowded place
Living surrounded by people is not the same as being connected to them. Social isolation is a significant issue for inner- city participants, particularly those in high-rise public housing with psychosocial disability.
Community participation support in the CBD focuses on genuine connection — interest-based groups, regular routines in familiar places, and mainstream community settings rather than disability-only programs.
Hospital connections
The inner city hosts several major hospitals and mental health services. We accept discharge referrals from inner-city hospitals and can meet participants on site before discharge.
